How do I design an island or peninsula?

Main Help  Table of Contents  Previous  Next

To Design a Peninsula:

1. Click on the Add Island button.

2. Click and hold the mouse button on the design area near the end a pre existing wall where it should be joined to.

3. Drag the mouse in the direction where you want the peninsula to go.

4. Refer to the message area for the length of the peninsula and when it is the proper length release the mouse button.

5. Make any necessary changes to the wall window and click the OK button to place the wall.

To Design a Free Standing Island:

1. Click on the Add Island button.

2. Click and hold the mouse button on the design area where you want the island to start.

3. Drag the mouse in the direction where you want the island to go.

4. Refer to the message area for the length of the island wall and when it is the proper length release the mouse button.

5. Make any necessary changes to the wall window and click the OK button to place the wall.

The same can be done by placing the wall using the keyboard. If you type 1 (or the next wall number that you need) on your keyboard the wall window will appear. It will ask you the wall length, x location , y location , angle , and the peninsula - island question. X and Y location refer to the grid. Angle decides the placement of the wall and on which side of the wall cabinets will be placed. For the wall to be a peninsula or island it must say yes next to the peninsula - island question.

Using the add island button as described above, it is important for you to click and hold the mouse button near the end of a pre existing wall when placing a peninsula, because the wall will be attached to the end of another wall. For an island that is free standing it is not necessary for you to click and hold the mouse button near the end of a pre existing wall because it will not be attached or it would really become a peninsula. Islands and peninsula walls are the same in KCDw, it only matters where you place them.

To Make the Back of the Island Active

There are two ways to make the back of an island active.

1.  If you type the letter 'B' on the keyboard and the number of the island, this will make the back active.  This only works for islands numbered 1-9.

2.  While in the elevation view, if you are looking at the front of the island, just right click, using your mouse, and this will put you on the back of the island.
