KCDw® has a size built in to most cabinets and counter tops that will allow you to angle the side out or in. If you are looking at the floorplan view, the cabinet can either be made wider at the front or wider at the back. Using the left cutback or right cutback you are able to do this. When a cabinet is designed it's unit screen appears for you to click OK for conformation. In the sizes box, usually toward the end, you will see left and right cutback. On that line simply type in one of the following items for the appropriate situation:
Any angle can be placed in the left or right cutback line, just remember to type in an A and then a plus or minus before the angle. For example, if we had two walls at a 45 degree angle and we wanted a cabinet butting into the angle on both sides, the easiest way to do this is with the cutbacks. We would make the cabinet on the right side of the angled walls left cutback a-22.5 and we would make the cabinet on the left side of the angled walls right cutback a-22.5 . To further understand this place two walls, wall #1 should be 100" long and wall #2 should be 100" long also. Place wall #2 to the right of wall #1 and for the angle question on the wall screen type in 45 and click OK. Make wall #1 active and then double click on base cabinet. Enter a width and click the R to R locate from circle. Scroll down the sizes box and type a-22.5 for right cutback. Click the OK button to place the unit after making any other changes to the cabinet. Double click on base cabinet again on the unit menu to place unit #2. Enter a width and then scroll down to the bottom of the sizes box. On the left cutback line type a-22.5 and click the OK button after making any other changes. Look at the floorplan view to see the two cabinets and the angled sides. The same process is done with other angled walls. Notice 22.5 was half of the angle on the two walls. Use that same idea when designing in other situations.
Hint: KCDw has a built in angle calculator. If you type the letters ANG on your keyboard while on the design screen, the angle calculator will pop up.
This will calculate in inches the amount of the cutback for a particular angle based on the cabinet depth. Just type in the angle in the top box, then the cabinet depth and click on calculate. This will tell you the amount you would need to cut back in order to create the angle. |
