Main Screen
Main Menu Bar
The main menu bar allows you to access all the different KCDw® functions. Select a menu such as file, wall, change, or doors by clicking on the name with the mouse and then select a sub-menu that drops down below it. The main menu bar is found along the top of the KCDw® window. These menus and sub-menus lead to all of KCDw's features.
Unit Menu
This is where you choose a unit to place on the screen. You can view each unit by clicking and holding the mouse button on a line, the unit picture will appear.Single click and then drag the mouse to place a unit or double click a line to bring up the unit screen. The unit menu is found along the right edge of the KCDw® window. Use the scroll bars to move up and down the list of units by clicking on the up or down arrow. The Blue Headings can be expanded or collapsed by clicking on them with the right mouse button. Also the current state of the menu headings (expanded or collapsed) can be saved for future recall. With the pointer over the Unit Menu, right click on the mouse. A menu you will pop up, choose save, and your preferences will be saved. You can also expand or collapse all the headings in the same method, just click the expand or collapse all menu items.
Add Wall & Island Buttons
These buttons let you drag and drop a wall or island wall on the screen. These buttons are located above the unit menu in the upper right.
Drawing Area
This is the area is where the drawings will appear. You can drag and drop wall, islands, and units in this area. You can double click a unit or wall to make a change to it. You can double click in the background of the view to change from floorplan to elevation or back. This drawing area is the large white space in the center of the KCDw® window when you first enter the program with no design on the screen.
Quick Help Area
The Quick Help area will give you a short description or hint about the part of the program you are currently working in. The quick help is found at the bottom of the KCDw® window. Always look in this area first when you have a question.
Location Number Area
The number area gives you two lines of dimensions, one passing through the top cabinets and the other passing through the base cabinets. It is found in the lower left corner below your design. These numbers give you the size of the open spaces (empty wall) and the locations of these open space. This is very useful information when placing unit on a wall.
Message Area
This area is where KCDw® will give you a message. The message might be the wall number you are working on or the location and width of a unit. The message area is found below the unit menu. Look here when you are dragging a wall or unit for size and location information.
Toolbar
This gives you quick access to many of the menu items located within the KCDw menus. The toolbar can be customized. Check out the toolbar help topic for more information.
