Set Settings

Note: In order for the Set Settings menu item to become available, make sure the set settings box is checked under the advanced tab  in Edit Startup form.

To Get to the Set Settings menu:

1.  Make sure that set settings is checked under the advanced tab in Edit Startup

2. Click on the Change menu item

3. Click on the Set Settings option.

In this section you are able to make advanced system changes that can help create a cutlist or price list. Any set variable (a price or part item that has a # in front of it) can be set in this section. For example, you may have found after working with your parts that faceframe material uses a set variable called #FFmat. In the set setting section, you may set #FFmat to a chosen item which will "override" the value in your part list.

Example:

The part list you are currently using has #FFmat set to 3/4" Solid Wood. This means that in the a-setup file in your part list in section one, the first line says:

Set,   #FFmat=        3/4" Solid Wood        ,Faceframe Material

If for a particular job you wanted to use material other than 3/4" Solid Wood you could use this section to set #FFmat to another type of material. This is handy because you wouldn't need to create a new part list or edit your current part list to make this one temporary change. Note: If you are commonly needing to change to another type of material or setting it would be a better idea to make the change permanently in the part list or price list. The program is designed to save you time with the least amount of editing per job as possible. If you have a specific question about this please feel free to contact us.

When you click on the set settings menu item, you are presented with a screen that has 3 columns.  The first is Name, you would type in a description of the change here.  For example, you could call it, Change FF Material.  Basically this is so you know whats going on here.  The next column says Value, this is going to be the new value for the variable we are going to change, in our above example, lets change #FFmat to 5/8" Solid Wood, thats what you would type in under Value.  The third column says variable, this is the variable we are going to change to 5/8" Solid Wood, in our example that would be #FFmat.

Set Settings should only be used for temporary changes, if you are going to change your face frame material permanently then you should make that change in your parts.  Or if you do half your cabinets with a different material, maybe you should create a second parts list with the new materials.  Check out the parts help topics for more information on these topics.
