Set Shop Standards - Frame

Main Help  Table of Contents  Previous  Next

To Set your Standards:

1. Click on Library on the main menu bar, make sure you are in the library for the type of cabinets you are designing, frame, frameless, overlay frame or closets.

NOTE:  The Closet Library is a separate purchase for cabinet owners.

NOTE:  Overlay Frame standard definitions are the same as Frameless definitions.

2. Click on Change on the main menu bar

3. Click on Set Shop Standards

4. Set all of your  standards on the list, scroll down to access the end of the list to continue to the end. Click Save as Permanent Standards when your done.

To set your shop standards you must first choose a library.  From the main menu bar click on Library or while holding down the Alt key press the L key.  Menu selections drop down.

IMPORTANT: Sizes must be set before a job is placed on the job screen area.  Changes made after a job is on the screen will not affect the current job. Furthermore, sizes in set shop standards are what is seen when looking at the elevation or the front view of the cabinet. For example, if your kick height is 4" when looking at it but it is actually 4 1/2" because it extends behind the faceframe you would fill in 4" in the set shop standards for kick height. In your part section you can then make the adjustment for the part. The cabinet needs to be designed as it actually looks not for the size of the part, that is done in the Parts section

KCDw®'s default is set to the Frame library and a check mark next to the word Frame shows this is the library being used.  To change libraries take the mouse pointer and place it on the library you want active then click the left mouse button; or use the up and down arrow keys then hit the enter key.  The library you have selected is now active and its name will appear at the top of Set Shop Standards window box.  With your library selected you are now ready to go and set YOUR shop standards.

From the main menu bar place the mouse pointer on Change, then click the left mouse button; or while holding down the Alt key press the C key.  Menu selections drop down.  Move the mouse pointer to Set Shop Standards and click the left mouse button or press the S key.  This opens the Set Shop Standards window box.

This is not your parts list it is for design only.  There are many choices to be made here so we suggest you scan the list first.  This will help you get to know the range of changes available.  To view the list use your up and down arrow keys; or place your mouse pointer on one of the small arrows located on the right side of the window box.  With the mouse pointer on an arrow, hold down your left mouse button and this will move you through the list.  To scroll the list at a slower pace click the left mouse on the arrow instead of holding it down; or use the up and down arrow keys located on the key board.

To make a change to an item highlight it, then type in the change.  For example when the Set Shop Standards window box opens Wall Height is highlighted.  In the example above, wall height is 90 1/4.  Suppose I want to change this to 92.  I would type in 92.

Once you have scrolled the list and made all your changes, you must decide if this is for the current job only or it is to be saved as a Permanent Standard.  One of the advantages of KCDw® is that you can make these changes for one job only and they will be saved with that job.  To save as a Permanent Standard click the Save Sizes as Permanent Standards button.  To save for current job only  click the Use Sizes for this job ONLY button.  If you choose not to save the changes, click the cancel button.

IMPORTANT: It is important to note that sizes MUST be set before a job goes onto the job screen area.  If the job is not designed with the correct sizes, your parts will be incorrect. For example, if you design a 35 1/4" tall base cabinet but you really wanted it 34 1/2" your parts would be incorrect. Make sure cabinets are designed with the sizes you want, any size can change, but it needs to be the size you want.
