Backing
Up Using a Zip Drive
Backing up data is very important with all computer programs, it is especially important to regularly back up your KCDw program.
A quick and easy way to do this is to purchase a zip drive. These are sometimes called thumb drives or flash drives. They are portable USB drives usually 1 or 2 gigabytes in size. To back up your KCDw, you will need at least 1 gigabyte possibly 2 gigabytes depending on how much information is in your KCDw folder.
To make a back up is easy, here are the steps.
1. install your zip drive to your computer.
2. Put your mouse over the Windows Start button, then RIGHT click (remember to right click) on the Start button. A menu will pop up, one of the options you will see is Explore (NOT Internet Explorer, NOT Explore All Users). LEFT click on Explore.
3. This will bring up Windows Explorer. On the left hand side you should see something that says, My Computer. Double Click on it using the left button (all actions from here on will be with the left mouse button).
4. After you have clicked on My Computer, you will see in the Right hand window a list of drives, one of these will be the C Drive. Double click on it.
5. After you have clicked on the C Drive, you should see a list of folders in the right hand window. One of them will say KCDw (NOT KCDw Backup or anything other than just KCDw). Click ONCE on the KCDw folder, this will highlight the folder.
6. After you have clicked ONCE on the KCDw folder. You should click on the Edit menu item. The Edit Menu Item is located at the top of the Explorer window, <see below>

7. After clicking on the Edit Menu Item. Click on Copy.
8. After you have click on Copy, you should look again to the left hand side of Explorer and again double click on My Computer. On the right hand side there is a list drives, you should double click on your Zip Drive (its letter may be E, F or G).
9. After you have double clicked on your Zip Drive, you should click on the Edit Menu Item then click on Paste. This copy the KCDw folder on to your Zip Drive.
Note: if you already have a KCDw folder on your Zip drive it will ask if you want to replace it, your answer should be "Yes to all" this will allow you to update your back up.
