Custom Cabinetry is not new to us at KCD. In 1974, John Murphy started a Custom Cabinet shop in the garage of his home on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. As the cabinet shop's reputation grew so did the work. Like you, John spent many long hours drawing plans, figuring prices and calculating parts lists only to have the customer change their mind. He knew there had to be a better way.

In the early 1980's as computers became available John saw their potential. Out of the need for an error free cut list KCD was developed. In order to get a cut list you need a design, the early developments provided customers with wall elevations and floor plans. It proved to be an excellent tool. It saved time; reduced errors, increased sales and profits went up. From the first KCD to today there have been many additions and modifications. The price estimating provides contracts and proposals. Cut lists can now be sent to CNC equipment. Now not only does KCD produce wall elevations and floor plans but photo realistic 3-D is included all packages.

Like the cabinet shop, our hard work and reputation has grown our business. Not only is KCD known for its ease use, job costing, accurate cut lists, superb graphics but our excellent technical support. We are proud of KCD Software. From design to CNC output, KCD has software for woodworkers' and designers.

Where's the "W"?
Many of our long time customers have asked us where the "w" has gone. For many years we were known as KCDw. The "w" was dropped mainly because we didn't need it. When the company was first founded, it was called KCD (Kitchen Computer Designer). This was in the days of DOS. When we created our MS Windows version we decided to add the "w" so everyone knew this was a Windows version. That's also about the time we got our Internet domain kcdw.com. When we created our new logo we decided to drop the "w'. Just remember whether KCD or KCDw, its still the great software we've always have with the same people who have always supported it.
